RESIDENTIAL PROGRAMMES OF TRAINING
The college has residential programnmes for students who can attend classes at the campus, Currently the college has three programmes which are:
1. DIPLOMA IN JOURNALISM
- This is a two -year programme with majors in the following subjects:
- Radio Broadcasting
- Television Broadcasting
- Photojournalism
- TV and Video Production
- Press Law
- Public Relations
- Mass Communication
- Research Methodology
- News Reporting
- News Editing
- Current Affairs & News Analysis
- Computer Application
- Institution Methods & Facilities
- Communications Skills
ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum entry requirements in this course are:
- At least two principal passes in form VI examination
- Proficiency in written and spoken English language or
- Advanced Certificate in journalism of RCT or equivalent Qualification from recognized institutions.
2. ADVANCED CERTIFICATE IN JOURNALISM
This is a one-year programme aimed to prepare reporters for prints and electronic media and to give them qualifications for further education. The contents of the programme are:
- Broadcasting
- Media History
- Photojournalism
- Video Production
- Media Law
- Public Relations
- Mass Communication
- News Reporting Current affairs & News Analysis
- Computer Application
- Communication Skills
ENTRY QUALIFICATION
Minimum entry qualifications in this course are
- Completion of Form IV with at least 5 passes , including English and Kiswahili subjects or
- Completion of Basic Certificate in journalism of RCT
3. INTERMEDIATE CERTIFICATE IN JOURNALISM
This is a 6-month programme studied for three months by course work and another three months in fieldwork attachment. Those who complete the course get inside ground of the profession qualified by extensive practical in the filed. The contents of the programme are:
- Broad casting
- Photojournalism
- TV and video production
- press law
- public relations
- news reporting
- current affairs& news analysis
- computer applications
- communication skills
- three (3) months field practical work
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
to qualify for entry into the programme, one must have successfully completed secondary education with good understanding of both English and Kiswahili languages.
4. BASIC CERTIFICATE IN JOURNALISM
this course is studies for a period of three months. the course is aimed to impart basic knowledge for one to be proceed with further studies at advanced certificate or diploma level. The contents of the programme are the same as for intermediate certificate in journalism but field attachment does not apply here.
