WELCOME NOTE FROM CENTER DIRECTOR
Royal College of Tanzania (RCT), formally known as Royal College of Journalism (RCJ) is a private institution owned and managed by Tanzania Volunteers For Development Trust, a non governmental, non profit making, non denomination and non partisan charitable organization, whose main objective is to promote the local volunteerism initiatives in Tanzania
The college was established on March 18, 2001 and registered by The National Council For Technical Education, under Act No. 9 of 1997. It officially started training on June 1, 2001. The main objective of the college was to provide training to the Tanzanian Youth who aspire to become Volunteers in the future and need to acquire skills in various fields of study.
Due to the fact that at that time there was an influx of establishments of private Media Houses, the need for Journalists with basic skills was too high and therefore the college established a course at Basic Certificate, Advanced Certificate and Diploma levels. The course offered all Journalism skills related to Print and Electronic Media.
The college core responsibility is to provide a conducive environment for teaching and learning, knowledge generation and provision of community service. The educational programs that are offered have been carefully designed to suite a wide range of clientele based on the CBET (Competence Based Education Training). Individual students have the opportunity to choose programs depending on their interest and convenience.
Realizing the high demand of other skills in the employment market, the college Board of Trustees decided to change the name of the college to ROYAL COLLEGE OF TANZANIA (RCT) so as to create an environment in which other fields of study could be established as a college expansion program.
Now therefore the college have introduced new courses in Social Work with Community Development, Law and Judicial Administration and Evening, Weekend and part time programs for adult education at all levels up from Secondary Education to Higher Diploma levels. The college is a National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA) registered Centre No. P4652.
We wish therefore to invite individuals, institutions, development partners, the private sector, and well wishers to join us in this exciting initiative. Fair Press Freedom For Justice is our current motto.
We are committed to create an outstanding attractive environment to study and work. We are committed to build RCT to a respected Institution in The East African Community countries that is capable of providing the highest level of standard education and the power of knowledge to serve humanity. YOU ARE ALL WELCOME to join the Royal family.
